Expand your technical communication skills and network with professionals
This scholarship is brought to you by the SEI Student Engagement Committee, the SEI Young Professionals Committee and the SEI Futures Fund and provides scholarships to up to 12 selected applicants to attend and present at Structures Congress 2026.
Provides complimentary registration and travel post-conference from SEI: economy travel with at least 14-day advance purchase within the US and $175 per night per diem (toward lodging and any other cost) up to three nights for participation April 29-May 1, 2026 at Structures Congress in Boston.
Note: This is not full cost reimbursement. Other costs are participants responsibility.
Eligibility
- Must be a current student or young professional (25 years or younger)
- A current member of SEI (free to add the institute to your ASCE membership)
- Interested and able to participate in-person in the technical session titled “Meet the Future of Structural Engineering” at Structures Congress 2026
- Submit a written response to the question: “How can the Structural Engineering profession better develop and support students and young professionals?”
- Preference will be given to previous student and young professional scholarship recipients or individuals who have previously attended Structures Congress
- Previous recipients of the SEI Futures Leaders Scholarship are not eligible
Scholarship Requirements
- Provide a written response to this question in your scholarship application: “How can the Structural Engineering profession better develop and support students and young professionals?” The response should be no more than 400 words briefly explaining why you believe this is important for the success of students and young professionals, what actionable steps SEI can take, and what you believe are the benefits. Include sources to justify your response.
- Selected applicants will participate in a virtual mentoring session with an SEI volunteer leader in the weeks prior to Structures Congress to rehearse their presentation and receive feedback on single slide presentation and communication skills.
- At the session, each presenter will give a 3-minute presentation on their response and then will participate in five 10 minute-presentations to small breakout discussion groups.
- Submit requested feedback on the conference experience.
Note: Travel funding is reimbursable to recipients followings the conference with completion of these requirements.
Evaluation Criteria
- Presence of original and creative idea
- Command of the subject matter
- Clarity, organization, and quality of submission including spelling and grammar
- Basis to support the author's claims
- Preference will be given to applicants who have previously received a Student or Young Professional Scholarship
